Scriptures for When You Feel Sad and Brokenhearted | Avery Raquel Ministries

There are moments in life when pain, grief, disappointment, rejection, or loss can leave the heart feeling heavy and broken.

During these difficult times, God does not abandon His people. The Bible reminds us that the Lord is close to the brokenhearted, comforts those who mourn, and gives strength to those who feel weak.

These Scriptures are here to encourage, comfort, and remind you that God sees every tear and cares deeply about what you are carrying.

“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”

Psalm 34:18 KJV
A broken heart is not hidden from God. He sees, He cares, and He remains near.

Scriptures for a Broken Heart

Emotional pain can make the heart feel wounded and exhausted. Scripture reminds us that God is able to bring healing to places that people cannot always see.

Psalm 147:3 KJV

“He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.”

John 14:18 KJV

“I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.”

1 Peter 5:7 KJV

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”

Scriptures for Grief and Mourning

Grief can come through death, separation, disappointment, or the loss of something deeply meaningful. The Bible does not tell us to pretend grief does not hurt. Instead, it reminds us that God comforts those who mourn.

Matthew 5:4 KJV

“Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.”

2 Corinthians 1:3–4 KJV

“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation...”

Revelation 21:4 KJV

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying...”

Scriptures for Strength During Pain

Pain can leave a person feeling weak and uncertain. God's Word reminds us that He remains present and gives strength when our own strength feels limited.

Isaiah 41:10 KJV

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee...”

Joshua 1:9 KJV

“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”

Deuteronomy 31:8 KJV

“And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee...”

Scriptures for Hope After a Difficult Season

Pain can make the present moment feel permanent, but Scripture reminds us that difficult seasons do not last forever and that God's mercy remains new every morning.

Romans 8:18 KJV

“For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”

Lamentations 3:22–23 KJV

“It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”

Psalm 30:5 KJV

“...weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”

Scriptures About God's Faithfulness

When pain changes your circumstances, it can help to remember what has not changed: God's character and faithfulness.

Nahum 1:7 KJV

“The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.”

Hebrews 13:5 KJV

“...for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”

Psalm 55:22 KJV

“Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee...”

How to Use These Scriptures

Healing often takes time. You do not have to rush through grief or pretend that you are fine. Bring your pain honestly before God and allow His Word to strengthen you one day at a time.

  • Read the Scripture slowly.
  • Tell God honestly what hurts.
  • Allow yourself time to grieve and heal.
  • Write down Scriptures that bring comfort.
  • Return to God's promises when painful memories surface.
  • Ask God for strength to take each day one step at a time.

Allow Others to Support You

Prayer and Scripture are important, but you do not have to carry deep emotional pain alone. God can also bring comfort through trustworthy people who listen, encourage, pray with you, and help you through difficult seasons.

  • Talk with a trusted family member, friend, pastor, or mature believer.
  • Give yourself permission to rest and process grief honestly.
  • Seek qualified professional support when emotional pain becomes difficult to manage alone.
  • Remember that asking for support does not mean your faith is weak.

A Prayer for a Broken Heart

Father, You see the pain in my heart and You know what I am carrying. Please draw near to me, comfort me in grief, strengthen me when I feel weak, and help me trust You through this difficult season. Heal the places in my heart that are wounded and give me grace to take each day one step at a time. Surround me with wise and trustworthy support, and remind me that I am not abandoned or forgotten. Help me hold on to Your Word and Your faithfulness while healing takes place. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Final Encouragement

A broken heart can make life feel very different, but pain does not mean that God has left you.

He remains near in grief, present in disappointment, faithful during loss, and able to strengthen you while healing takes place.

Give yourself permission to heal slowly. Continue praying, rest when necessary, stay connected to God's Word, and allow trustworthy people to support you when you need them.

God is still near, even when your heart is hurting.

“He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.”

Psalm 147:3 KJV
