Why God Chose Mary
God did not choose Mary because she was wealthy, powerful, or well-known. She was a young woman from Nazareth, yet God chose her for one of the most significant roles in history: to carry and give birth to Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world.
Her story reveals an important truth about God's calling. His purposes are not determined by worldly status, wealth, popularity, or human recognition.
Chosen by Grace, Not Status
When the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary, he told her that she was highly favoured and that the Lord was with her.

Mary's calling did not come because she had achieved social prominence. God graciously chose her to participate in His redemptive plan.
Her story reminds us that God's calling is not limited by where someone comes from, how much money they have, or whether the world considers them important.
A Heart of Humility and Surrender
Mary's response to the angel reveals remarkable surrender. She did not know every detail of what would happen, but she submitted herself to God's will.

Mary understood herself as a servant of the Lord. Her response demonstrates humility, trust, and willingness to accept the assignment God had given her.
Faith in What Seemed Impossible
Mary was told that she would conceive while still a virgin and that the child would be called the Son of God. Naturally, she asked how this would happen.
Gabriel explained that the Holy Ghost would come upon her and reminded her that nothing is impossible with God.

Mary chose to trust God's word even though what she had been told went beyond natural human understanding.
Her Yes to God Came With a Cost
Mary's obedience was not necessarily the easiest path. She was betrothed to Joseph, and becoming pregnant before they came together could expose her to misunderstanding, shame, and serious consequences within her community.
Matthew records that Joseph initially considered putting her away privately before an angel explained to him that the child had been conceived by the Holy Ghost.
Part of God's Long-Established Plan
Mary's role was not random. The birth of Jesus fulfilled God's redemptive plan that had been revealed through Scripture.

Long before Mary was born, Scripture pointed toward the coming Messiah. When the appointed time came, God chose Mary to have a unique role in the fulfillment of that promise.
The Purpose of Mary's Role
Mary's significance ultimately points beyond herself to Jesus Christ. She was chosen to give birth to the promised Messiah, through whom God's plan of salvation would be revealed.

What Mary's Story Can Teach Us
Mary's story demonstrates grace, faith, humility, surrender, courage, and obedience. God entrusted her with an extraordinary assignment, and she responded by submitting herself to His will.
Her life reminds believers not to underestimate what God can accomplish through someone who is willing to trust and obey Him.
You do not have to be famous, wealthy, or powerful for God to use you.
Be willing. Be humble. Trust God. Obey His Word, and allow His purpose to be greater than your own plans.
