Hidden Addictions

A Christian Book About Hidden Struggles, Shame, Healing, Accountability, and Freedom in Christ

✦ ◇ ✦
Hidden Addictions by Avery Raquel

What is hidden can still be brought into the light.

Some battles are visible. Others are hidden behind smiles, routines, productivity, church attendance, relationships, and everyday life.

Hidden Addictions is a Christian book created to address the struggles people may carry silently while encouraging honesty, accountability, healing, prayer, surrender, and spiritual freedom.

Shame often convinces people to hide. But hiding can also keep a struggle protected from the very help, truth, and accountability that may be needed to begin moving forward.

“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”

John 8:36 KJV

Why Hidden Struggles Can Be So Difficult to Break

A hidden struggle can become especially powerful when it is protected by secrecy. The person may feel afraid of judgment, embarrassed by repeated failure, or convinced that no one would understand.

Over time, secrecy can create isolation. The struggle may continue privately while the person works hard to appear fine publicly.

This is one reason honesty matters. Bringing a problem into the light does not instantly solve everything, but it can be an important first step toward accountability, support, prayer, and meaningful change.

Shame Tells You to Hide

Shame often says, “If people knew, they would reject you.” It encourages silence and makes a person believe they must deal with everything alone.

But secrecy and healing do not always work well together. There may be moments when prayer needs to be joined with wise accountability, honest conversation, boundaries, and practical changes.

Freedom is not always a single emotional moment. For many people, it is also a process of making different decisions, removing access to harmful patterns, rebuilding habits, and learning how to walk consistently in truth.

“He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.”

Proverbs 28:13 KJV

Freedom Requires More Than Hiding Better

There is a difference between managing appearances and experiencing real change. A person can become very skilled at hiding a problem while still remaining trapped by it.

Genuine freedom requires truth. It may require removing triggers, changing routines, setting boundaries, asking for help, rebuilding spiritual disciplines, and refusing to keep feeding the same cycle.

The goal is not simply to look better publicly. The goal is to become healthier spiritually and personally.

Why I Created Hidden Addictions

I created Hidden Addictions because there are people fighting private battles while believing they are the only ones struggling.

My hope is that readers are encouraged to stop allowing shame to keep them silent and begin pursuing truth, accountability, healing, and restoration.

No struggle becomes less serious simply because nobody else can see it. And no person should believe that hiding forever is the only option.

A Message for Anyone Fighting in Silence

You do not have to make peace with a destructive cycle simply because it has been present for a long time.

Change may require honesty, humility, discipline, accountability, spiritual growth, and difficult decisions.

But continuing to hide is not the same as being free.
